When you are choosing a Lombok villa with a private chef, the useful question is how meals will work across your whole stay. You might want an easy dinner after arrival, lunch out on a beach day and one long evening around the table with friends. Children may need to eat earlier than the adults. Nobody wants to spend the holiday organising three meals a day.
A little planning before you book lets you keep that flexibility. Here is how to combine a chef, your own kitchen and meals out on a South Lombok villa holiday, including what we offer at Wave Lombok and what needs separate confirmation.
Start with what the villa rate includes
At Wave Lombok, daily breakfast, daily housekeeping and concierge are included. Both villas have a fully equipped kitchen and indoor and outdoor dining areas. Lunch, dinner and a private chef are additional arrangements; reserving a villa does not automatically reserve a chef for every evening.
That distinction matters when comparing accommodation. Ask whether a listing’s phrase “private chef” means a chef included throughout your stay, a service booked for individual meals, or a supplier the host can help you find. Then check which food costs sit outside the accommodation rate.
Our experiences page lists the current optional services. A private chef can be requested for a meal at your villa, subject to availability and confirmation for your dates. You can also cook for yourselves or eat out. Choose the combination that suits your group rather than committing to every dinner before you know what each day will look like.
Ask for the full meal cost, not just the chef fee
Wave Lombok’s chef service charges ingredients separately from the chef fee, at cost with receipts. The listed options cover parties of up to five guests and parties of six to ten. Use the current service page as a starting point and ask for a quote for your group and chosen menu.
Before confirming, settle these points:
- The number of adults and children eating, and how children count towards the quote.
- The menu, portions and any separate children’s meal.
- The chef fee, ingredient budget and how any changes to that budget are agreed.
- Whether drinks, serving and clearing up are covered by the arrangement.
- The meal time, payment terms and what happens if your plans change.
For a meal across both villas with more than ten diners, request a specific arrangement. The villas’ combined sleeping capacity does not establish the capacity of a chef booking or a single dining table. Confirm seating, the dining location and staffing together.
Make the first evening easy
Decide your arrival-night dinner before you travel. Send the team your expected arrival time and ask which options can be confirmed around it. A chef dinner is appealing when everyone arrives together; it may be less practical if flights bring different households in hours apart.
Grocery pre-stocking is another optional service at Wave Lombok. Send a shopping list ahead and confirm the notice required, grocery costs and service charge. Keep the list specific: a preferred snack, ingredients for a simple supper and drinks your group actually wants. Ask about substitutions for anything essential.
Treat these as separate bookings alongside the villa reservation. Have the team confirm the chosen meal or shopping arrangement, rather than assuming a request in your enquiry is already scheduled.
Plan children’s meals and dietary requirements explicitly
For children, an earlier meal can make an evening more relaxed. Ask whether their food can be served first and agree a simple menu they will eat. If adults want a longer dinner, confirm how the timings fit together; an early children’s serving is a request to arrange, not an automatic part of every chef booking.
Tell the team about dietary requirements before agreeing the menu. Distinguish preferences from allergies and ask the people preparing the food to confirm what they can accommodate, including ingredient substitutions and any preparation requirements that matter to you. Do this before booking a meal on which someone depends.
The kitchens also give families the option of preparing familiar snacks or a small meal themselves. For any particular appliance or equipment you need, ask for confirmation before arrival.
Leave room for meals out
An example plan for a five-night stay might be an agreed arrival supper, two evenings eating out, one chef dinner and one evening cooking something simple yourselves. It is a planning example, not a meal package. You can change the balance towards more time at the villa or more exploring.
Our South Lombok eating guide is a starting point for restaurant ideas. Before committing the group, have the concierge check current opening hours, availability and transport. For a larger table, pass on the headcount and any dietary needs when requesting a reservation.
Lunch out can fit naturally into a day away from the villa. On a quiet day at home, agree who is handling lunch so that breakfast being included does not leave everyone assuming another meal will appear.
Choose the house, then confirm the dining plan
Wave Lombok has two villas on a private beachfront estate at Pantai Serangan in South Lombok. The houses are set back about a two-minute walk from the beach along a private estate path; the beach itself is public.
Villa Serangan has four bedrooms, sleeps up to ten and has a partial sea view. Villa Selong Belanak has three guest bedrooms plus a separate staff room, sleeps up to eight and has no sea view. Each has its own private pool and kitchen. You can also enquire about taking both villas together, with seven guest bedrooms and capacity for up to eighteen guests.
When you check villa availability, keep the meal plan alongside the accommodation decision. Send your dates, group size, children’s ages and the evenings you would like a chef. Add dietary requirements and whether you want to dine together across both houses. Our team can check the arrangements and confirm the availability and cost of the extras before you commit to them.
